3vG Enhances Capabilities with NISAR Satellite Integration
We’re excited to share that 3vGeomatics (3vG), a key part of Orica Digital Solutions’ Geosolutions portfolio, is expanding its ground movement monitoring capabilities through the integration of NISAR satellite data. This enhancement enables scalable, precise observation at a regional or national scale, including areas previously considered too vegetated or remote for reliable monitoring.
What is NISAR and why does it matter?
NISAR (NASA–ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar) is set to become the first satellite to systematically map Earth’s surface using dual radar frequencies: L-band and S-band. The L-band radar penetrates dense vegetation, enabling the detection of surface movements in zones that other InSAR radar frequencies cannot reach. This opens new possibilities for monitoring geohazards in forested and inaccessible terrain.
Why this is a game-changer for geohazard monitoring
- Vegetated Slope Monitoring: NISAR’s L-band radar enables centimetre-level precision in vegetated and remote areas, making large-scale geohazard detection both practical and affordable.
- Infrastructure at Scale: With global coverage and a 12-day revisit cycle, NISAR allows 3vG to deliver consistent, repeatable monitoring across entire network infrastructures, including slopes, pipelines, roads, railways, and power distribution networks.
- Enhanced Risk Management: Integrated with 3vG’s advanced processing platforms, NISAR data provides near real-time insights into ground displacement and acceleration. This empowers clients to proactively manage geohazards, respond faster to risks, and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Scalability for Networks: NISAR’s broad coverage supports cost-effective observation of entire operational footprints, including hard-to-access regions.
- Economic Viability: NISAR data is free, allowing 3vG to make wide-area monitoring more accessible and cost-effective for sectors such as mining, energy, transportation, and government.
This expansion marks a major step forward in geospatial intelligence, enabling our customers to observe, control, and reduce ground movement risks with unmatched accuracy, coverage, and speed.
